Susan Donahoe has worked in the field of education for 30 years, including experiences in classroom teaching in both regular and special education, educational evaluation, pre-service instruction, consultation in early childhood (environments that support children from birth to 8 years of age) and early childhood with a specific focus on autism. Susan's background in autism includes 15 years direct teaching and consultation experience for students with ASD as well as training by Barry Prizant, Stanley Greenspan, Carol Gray, Brenda Smith-Myles, Kathleen Quill, Susan Stokes and all four levels of state autism training. Susan works with individual teachers, school teams and collaborative community councils to support quality early childhood environments for all young children.
Susan holds a B.A. in Elementary Education with additional certification in Early Childhood Special Education and a Masters degree in Child and Family Studies. She holds a Wisconsin lifetime license to teach Early Childhood: Special Education.
A baby's ability to realize his/her optimal potential for intelligence, creativity and social competence in adulthood is impacted powerfully by the experiences that he or she has both prenatally and in the years of early childhood.
Early Childhood Consulting Services is interested in supporting best practices across environments, in the home and community, as well as in the schools.
Best practices include:
Ø Child-friendly environments that encourage play, movement and use of the senses
Ø Child-responsive instruction delivered in natural settings as much as possible
Ø Quality diagnostics
Ø Developmentally and individually appropriate instruction that results in improvement of student's behavioral, academic and social skills
Ø Strong teams and consensus-based problem solving
Ø Collaborative (school/community/special education/ regular education) preschool or four-year-old programming arrangements
Ø Strong partnerships between families and schools
Ø On-going program assessment and reflective practice
Specific services available include classroom visitation, consultation and/or technical assistance by the program consultant in regard to program, classroom or individual child issues. Pertinent information in regard to specific topics and current trends in the field are available, as is the facilitating of networking or resource contacts.
Program costs:
1-10 days $675.00/day
11-20 days $625.00/day
21-40 days $575.00/day
Independent Educational Evaluation
Diagnostic services in the areas of early childhood and/or early childhood autism are available as part of the program services above or can be purchased separately. These diagnostic services may be used in addition to other diagnostic services provided by individual districts, or completed as an independent evaluation per request.
Fee: $700 per evaluation and $50 per hour for meeting time.
